Methodology, data sources and corrections
GetFundedUSA lists four kinds of things, each from a named public source. This page says where each comes from, how often it is checked, what we add, and what we deliberately do not do.
Data sources
| Listing type | Source | What we take from it | Refresh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Federal grants (29) | grants.gov Search API; SBIR.gov | Opportunity number, sponsor, award floor/ceiling, deadline, eligibility text, apply link | Weekly automated pull; deadlines checked daily |
| State and territory grants (234) | Each state's economic-development or commerce agency page, read directly | Program name, sponsor, award range, deadline or rolling status, apply link | Verified at load; apply links checked daily; full re-verification each enrichment pass |
| Corporate and foundation grants (18) | The funder's own program page | Same fields as above | Same as state grants |
| SBA 7(a) lenders (200) | SBA 7(a) Lender Activity Report, FY2025 (data.sba.gov) | Approved loans, approved and guaranteed dollars, average loan size, national rank, states served; per-state rankings from the state-level rows | Annually, when SBA publishes the fiscal-year report |
| Free business counseling (5) | SBA resource-partner programs (SBDC, SCORE, Women's Business Centers, Veterans Business Outreach Centers, APEX Accelerators) | Program description, who it serves, locator link | Reviewed each enrichment pass |
| Foreign-Trade Zones (261) | U.S. Foreign-Trade Zones Board zone list (ofis.trade.gov) | Zone number, grantee, location, status, contact link | Reviewed each enrichment pass; links checked daily |
Each listing names its source and the date it was last verified. Full enrichment passes are logged on Data updates.
Open, rolling and closed
Of 281 grant programs listed, 16 are currently open or accept applications on a rolling basis. Closed programs stay on the site, marked closed, because most recur annually and the eligibility and award history is useful when they reopen. A daily sweep moves a program to closed when its deadline passes; it reopens only when we re-verify a new cycle at the source.
What we compute ourselves
- Lender tiers and state rankings. "Top national", "high volume" and "active" tiers are cut from the SBA report's approved-dollar totals; per-state rankings sort the report's state-level rows by approved loans in that state. The figures are SBA's; only the ordering is ours.
- Grant categories. Women-owned, veteran-owned, minority-owned, rural, R&D and industry tags are assigned from the funder's stated eligibility, so a program appears on the state and category pages that fit it.
- Plain-language summaries. The "who qualifies" and "how to apply" text on each listing is written from the source page and checked against it. It is a summary, not the rules: the funder's page governs.
What we leave out, and why
- We do not list lead-generation "grant finder" services, paid grant-writing offers, or programs whose only source is a press release.
- We do not estimate award odds, suggest amounts to request, or rank grants by attractiveness.
- Lenders outside the SBA 7(a) program (conventional, CDFI, online) are not ranked here, because no comparable public activity data exists for them.
- We process no applications and hold no applicant data. Every listing links to the funder's or lender's own page.
Independence and money
No funder, lender or zone pays to be listed, tiered or described. The site is supported by display advertising and may carry labeled sponsored placements in future; neither affects which programs are listed or how they are described. The publisher, Own the Answer Inc., is not a lender, grantmaker, SBA resource partner or government agency, and is not affiliated with the SBA or any organization listed.
Corrections
If a deadline, award amount, link or eligibility statement here does not match the funder's page, or a lender's figures do not match the SBA report, email vince@owntheanswer.ai with the page URL. We check against the source and correct the listing within five business days, or explain why the source says what it says. Funders and lenders may use the same address to tell us about a new cycle or a changed program. Corrections that change a published figure are noted on Data updates.
